Inspired Writer Retreat

A personal writer’s retreat.

We live in intense and interesting times. Practicing physical distancing doesn’t mean we have to give up connection or support. We are resilient, after all. Your writer’s retreat can be adapted to be done remotely, or in person with safe distance precautions. I’ll guide you to create a writing sanctuary and practice — in your own home or here in New Mexico within a safe quarantine. What better time to ‘whole’ up and write.

Your private writer’s retreat is orchestrated with services that best support you. Based on your personal rhythms, we create a flight plan to reach your desired outcome, whether it’s starting a writing practice or getting your book sent to press and out to the world.

Here, you’ll be free from everyday distractions. That doesn’t mean you won’t be distracted by the chatter of ravens, or the call of the mesa, river, or mountains. These are the nurturing aspects of nature — distractions that inspire — the pauses between breath. Walks out in nature are encouraged.

Starry Nights • Campfires • Quiet • Solitude • Support • Nurturance • Time to Create

You’ll have the opportunity to work one-on-one with an award winning book designer who will become familiar with you and your book. We’ll collaborate on your initial book design — seeing what the finished book will look like is a great motivator. I can be your guide through the steps that happen before, during, and after the writing has begun — finding an editor, a traditional or on-demand printer, and branding you as an author through creating a website and marketing materials.*

I don’t teach you how to write. I create an environment where you can do your work, supported in ways that are helpful to you.

Bring your book from the shadow into the light.

Our work together will be a milestone in getting your words out to the world. Whether your intention is to share your truths, elevate the status of your career, reach more people with your art, or express yourself through memoir, fiction, or poetry, you have a voice and a message to share. I invite you step up, step out of your day-to-day, and step into your creative purpose.

Your voice matters. This is your time.

Your writer’s retreat will be, too.

“Your notion of taking on and eliminating the dogs-body work of daily errands and diverting details is spot on: very like one of the writer’s workshops where you go away and work in idyllic surroundings, away from the daily sameness and routine, escape into the work. It’s very difficult and challenging, at least for me, to remain completely conscious and alert while not also being subject to diversions prompted by life’s stimulating presence and texture. One sits down at the computer, the net pops up, the news, the bookkeeping, the correspondence, the et ceteras.

Excuses, sure, but also real. One must accept one’s short comings, which include the usual temptations toward procrastination or the list of priorities, which are urgent if not more important. Books also bedevil me as much as current tasks and events. One always wishes one had a personal assistant, trustworthy and capable of responsibility.

One always thinks that the cost is too high but perhaps the alternative means wasting one’s life in busyness.”
